ABS 3D Printing in Tbilisi

ABS is the engineering plastic most factory-made plastic around you is made of: appliance housings, car interiors, LEGO bricks. It is impact-resistant, stable up to 90°C, and easy to post-process.

ABS is demanding to print — it needs an enclosed, heated chamber, otherwise parts crack and delaminate. Our Bambu Lab P2S has an enclosed chamber, so ABS comes out consistently, large parts included.

ABS properties — when to choose it

  • Impact resistance: takes hits and vibration — exactly what appliance and car parts need.
  • Heat resistance up to ~90°C: a car cabin in summer, parts near motors and heat.
  • Post-processing: sands, drills, paints; acetone smoothing gives a glossy finish.
  • Stable under long-term load — creeps less than PLA and PETG.

What ABS can’t handle

  • Shrinkage: ABS contracts as it cools — very large flat parts can warp even in an enclosed chamber; sometimes the right answer is splitting the part.
  • Smell during printing: ABS is noticeably smelly to print, so we print it in a ventilated chamber — the finished part has no odor.
  • UV: outdoors it yellows and gets brittle over time — for outdoor parts PETG is the better pick.

Why ABS needs an enclosed chamber

ABS contracts as it cools, and if a part cools unevenly, corners lift off the bed and layers split into cracks. That is why ABS won’t print reliably on open printers. The enclosed chamber of the P2S keeps an even temperature around the part: shrinkage happens uniformly and the part comes out whole and accurate. This is exactly why home attempts at ABS often end in scrap — and ours don’t.

Torn between ABS and PETG? The rule is simple: heat and impacts — ABS, outdoors and moisture — PETG. If the part both heats up and lives outside, tell us the conditions — sometimes the right answer is ASA or a composite, and we’ll say so honestly.

What people print in ABS

  • Automotive plastic: trim clips, plugs, bumper and interior mounts you can’t buy separately.
  • Electronics enclosures: boxes, lids, panels with precise fitting surfaces.
  • Tool handles and parts: pieces that must survive impacts, heat and daily work.
