PLA properties — when to choose it

• Rigid and stable: parts keep their geometry precisely — great for prototypes and fitting surfaces.

What PLA can’t handle

• Heat: parts can warp already at 55–60°C. A car cabin in a Tbilisi summer is certain death for PLA — use PETG or ABS for anything automotive.
• Sustained load and impacts: under constant force PLA slowly deforms, and a hard hit makes it crack rather than bend.
• Outdoors: UV and temperature swings make it brittle within a season or two.

PLA or PETG — which to choose?

A simple rule: decor, gifts, mockups and anything living indoors — PLA; mounts, outdoor pieces and loaded parts — PETG. If the part will touch anything hot — a car cabin, a kitchen near the stove — go straight to PETG or ABS. The price difference is small: a gram of PETG costs just 2 tetri more, so choose by the part’s working conditions, not by price.

One more PLA advantage: it is the best material for multicolor printing — AMS color changes run clean and the color joints come out crisp. If you want a piece in 2–4 colors, it is almost always PLA.

PLA printing price

Material — 0.10 ₾/g. The total is: part weight × price per gram + printer time at 12 ₾/hour + setup. Minimum order — 35 ₾. The heavier the order, the cheaper the gram: 300 g+ — −15%, 1 kg+ — −25%, 3 kg+ — −35%.
